The Instrumentation and control program is a multi-disciplinary stream that covers subjects from various branches such as chemical, mechanical, electrical, electronics and computers, designed to prepare graduates for a career in the design, maintenance, Installation, testing, and repair of industrial electrical and electronic equipment and systems. The Vision of this program is to minimize skill gap between academia and industry, achieve global standards in the field of Instrumentation and Control Engineering and to satisfy the rapidly growing demands of local UAE industries.
Started in 2014, this rather young division offers many courses in Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering in addition to intensive use of microprocessors and Computers to understand the hardware and software aspect of Intelligent Instrumentation, a variety of courses from Instrumentation Technology, process computers, instrument system communications, smart transmitters, modern control theory, , Robotics, Industrial Electronics, Computer Controlled Instrumentation, Artificial Intelligence, distributed control systems, process simulations, and computer graphic display interfaces. Consequently, graduates will possess the skills necessary to enter the workforce as engineers in the field of Instrumentation and control in various industrial sectors. They may be employed by pulp and paper processing companies, nuclear, thermal and hydro power generating companies, mining, petrochemical, oil and gas companies, steel companies, water treatment facilities, manufacturing companies and industrial instrument servicing establishments. As Instrumentation and control engineers work to improve stability, reliability, and safety of systems, their future is bright: The more automated industry becomes, the higher the demand will be for these engineers.
Instrumentation and Control ADPoly laboratories provide a “hands-on” environment that is crucial for developing students’ understanding of theoretical concepts where they can troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate pneumatic/electronic and analog/digital instruments, configure digital communication devices and use a variety of different forms of instrumentation and have access to state-of-the-art equipment. Our labs offer extensive research facilities to the students who have keen interest in control engineering, process control, classical control (nonlinear and adaptive), intelligent control, robotics, digital signal processing, image processing, real time systems and other related areas.
On Campus Training (OCT) and On Job Training (OJT) along with Field trips to businesses that have instrumentation and control systems are an integral part of the program which extend the hands-on experience of students into the real world. This training aims to raise the standard of application, installation and commissioning knowledge of students. It offers in-depth understanding of the most up-to-date products, tools and methods used in industry. The principle is: “Learning from the real world for the real world”.
