Ms. Catherine Megan Roberts

Catherine Roberts is an English instructor in the Academic Support Department at Abu Dhabi Polytechnic with over 15 years of experience in diverse educational settings including South Africa, the UK, China, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Alongside her extensive experience in postgraduate teaching, research and course development, Catherine has worked as a teacher mentor and trainer, an English for academic purposes and business English co-ordinator, and served as a university guest lecturer on critical discourse analysis and English language teaching courses.

Catherine’s research and academic interests lie in the intersections between language and ideology, the treatment of vulnerable populations, and communicative language teaching through integrative, applied methods. Her MA dissertation focussed on discursive representations of Islam and Muslims in the UK Westminster Bridge attack while her MSc examined perceptions of xenophobia in South Africa. Catherine has presented at conferences and workshops on language and identity, task-based language learning, and IELTS and GMAT test preparation.

Catherine brings to her role at Abu Dhabi Polytechnic not only a wealth of experience, but also a passion and dedication to empowering learners by creating interactive, comfortable learning environments which nurture their strengths, encourage critical thinking and questioning, and enhance academic and technical English skills.
