DescriptionThis course equips students with the technical skills needed to securely establish, maintain and troubleshoot the essential networks that businesses rely on. It provides fundamental concepts and skills in data communications, telecommunications, and computer networking, both wired and wireless. Students will learn basic network devices, functions, standards, and protocols. The course also covers Local Area Networks and OSI layer model, Switching and routing; Ethernet technologies; Transmission Control Protocol (TCP)/Internet Protocol (IP); wireless standards; network applications. The students will acquire basic networking skills like designing and setting up a local area network. Lecture: 2 hrs/week; tutorial: 1 hr/week; Lab: 2 hrs/week.
