Abu Dhabi Polytechnic Team was awarded Overall Winning Award in the competition

The innovation lab supported the project “Balcony Safety Control” we have developed a balcony safe control system.

This system will be able to contribute to the safety of beloved children and family members with mental or physical disabilities. The Balcony Safe Control system is a combination of mechanical design and pneumatic systems. It is set in motion when a person walks out to the balcony, and immediately, the inner pole of the balcony will be lifted upwards.

Meanwhile, when the person leaves the balcony, and there’s no weight on, it will immediately go back to its place as a normal balcony. You might also wonder whether the inner pole lift can be deactivated, and the answer is yes. If, for example, parents want to enjoy the view from the balcony, they can simply close the air compressor, and reactive it as they leave the balcony.

According to world health organization studies, falls are the second leading cause to injuries and deaths worldwide. Each year, an estimated 684,000 people die from falls globally. Finally, their studies have concluded that a 20% reduction in the incidence of falls among children under 10 years of age could create a net saving of over 120 million US dollars each year.
