Description This course focuses on the core building blocks of the refining process systems, equipment, and economics. IT covers the characteristics and types of crude oil, thermo-physical properties of crude oil fractions, empirical equations for estimating properties, crude oil distillation and fractionation, the Mc Cabe-Thiele stage-wise graphical technique, raw hydrocarbon conversion processes, equipment unit set-ups for reforming, cracking, and coking of crude oil, refinery flow sheet components and operational functions, as well as hazards and risks involved in downstream operations. Lecture: 2 hrs/wk; Lab: 3 hrs/wk.
