Assistant Professor

Education
  • BEng. Drilling/Production Engineering, API, Algeria, 1996.
  • MSc. Reservoir Engineering, API under the auspices of the University of Oklahoma, USA, 2001.
  • P/G Dip. Computer Aided Engineering Design, University of Limerick, Ireland, 2004

Dr. Amar Sahed is a cross-disciplinary accomplished expert with 19+ industrial and academic years of reservoir and drilling mechanics versatile experience. Since early 2014, he has lead the technical evaluation committee for setting up state of the art laboratories of the whole spectrum of petroleum engineering technology at Abu Dhabi Polytechnic (ADPoly). Previously a Consultant/Head of Department of Mechanical/Petroleum Engineering, Curtin University where I became familiar with the Australian curriculum for undergraduates which heavily relies on active teaching through Problem Based Learning (PBL) and innovative ways for implementing effective teaching. Specifically he provided ProEngineer integrated Finite Element Analysis, in particular material strength of solid mechanics and IC thermal analysis, with emphasis on design capabilities without producing physical prototype. During his previous employments, he has developed the following key strengths for success including, but are not limited to, the following: researching and designing of new curricula and teaching materials, assessing of students course work, setting and marking examinations, providing guidance and feedback to students, carrying out departmental administrative tasks (e.g. preparing for accreditation, timetables and mentoring programs), recruiting and interviewing potential new staff, producing detailed research proposals, marketing and promoting university activities.

Prior to his postgraduate studies (August 1996 – June 2000) he worked as a Petroleum Engineer chez SONATRACH. Specifically, he conducted “Amerada” Interpretation Data Measurements during Wells Shut-In and ShadowFrac Reservoir Fracturing. He was rated “truly distinctive” for Analytical Skills and Teamwork. He also supervised hydraulic well fracturing Brides HT/HP gas field conducted by Halliburton oil company, Algeria.

Dr. Sahed has more than 20 published refereed technical articles in scholarly international journals and proceedings of international conferences.
