Early 2008, the Institute of Applied Technology developed and created the aviation academy to provide the required qualified manpower to the emerging aviation industry in the United Arab Emirates. In 2012, the aviation academy became an essential part of ADPoly and its mandate to establish and implement programs capable of qualifying national graduates to join the emerging UAE industries as skilled manpower in aviation and many others.
Programs at ADPoly integrate classroom and workshop training to develop the needed skills through balanced delivery of academic material, workshop practical practices, and on the job training at an approved industry training provider. This integration assures the student of a solid career path by earning an accredited academic qualification (Higher Diploma of higher) and an industry required and accepted qualification (license) in an aviation specialization.
The advantage of ADPoly programs in general and the aviation programs, in particular, is that it allows graduates with high achievements and ambition to pursue higher educational studies. Those that are successful and with a desire to pursue further education can do so at ADPoly or at a variety of institutions that offers advanced degrees in aviation related technologies.
The AET program was developed to address the need for aircraft engineering in an expanding commercial aviation market. There has been an increasing demand for commercial aviation worldwide and particularly in the UAE mandated by airline companies’ keen interest in increasing their fleets of aircrafts and registering an unprecedented growth in this sector of transportation. The airline’s fleets require a considerable amount of human resources that are versed in this high-tech industry to manage its growth. ADPoly’s AET programs were developed to provide the UAE’s needed national expertise in aircraft engineering technologies. ADPoly’s AET programs provide internationally (approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency-EASA) and nationally approved (Approved by the General Civil Aviation Authority of the UAE) Ab/Initio training in aircraft engineering technologies. These approvals lead to industry required licensing. Additionally, the AET program is a Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s accredited three years Higher Diploma in Aircraft Engineering Technology. This accredited program embeds the requirements of EASA’s/GCAA’s Ab/Initio training under part 66/CAR 66 Category B1-Aeromechanical Technology and/or Category B2-Avionics Technology License programs respectively.
Graduates are eligible to apply for EASA’s and GCAA’s category B “Maintenance Certifying Technician License” after completing the Ab/Initio training requirements along with two years of relevant industrial experience. This license is the key for work in civil aviation on commercial aircraft at any recognized or approved maintenance facility, worldwide.
