The Applied Bachelor in Aircraft Engineering Technology (ABAET) program is offered in two concentrations: Aeromechanics and Avionics.
The first three-year program will culminate in an GCAA/EASA certificate that is awarded by the Abu Dhabi Polytechnic – Al Ain Campus for the successful completion of the Aeromechanical CAT B1.1 or the Avionics CAT B2 license course. On undertaking the requisite maintenance experience of two years thereafter, the graduates will be eligible to apply for an EASA CAT ‘B’ Maintenance Certifying Technician License. This will enable the graduate to work on civil aircraft in any recognized or approved maintenance facility worldwide.
The final year (4th year) would encompass aircraft maintenance industry related modules. This year is unique after comparison with other national and international accredited institutions. That the final year provided by Abu Dhabi Polytechnic encompasses modules like advanced aerodynamics, aircraft Materials and structures, aircraft component modeling and Design, Flight stability and control, advanced propulsion systems, unmanned airborne system, antenna, radar, and navigation, …. etc. as shown in the study plan.

The Aeromechanic concentration in the Applied Bachelor in Aircraft Engineering Technology (ABAET) program focuses on the mechanical aspects of aircraft maintenance, including airframe structures, propulsion systems, and flight controls. Students will gain in-depth knowledge of advanced aerodynamics, aircraft materials and structures, component modeling and design, flight stability and control, and propulsion technologies. This concentration equips graduates with the technical expertise needed to maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance aircraft mechanical systems, preparing them for careers in the aviation industry.
The Avionic concentration in the Applied Bachelor in Aircraft Engineering Technology (ABAET) program specializes in the electronic and electrical systems essential to modern aircraft operations. Students will study advanced topics such as unmanned airborne systems, antenna and radar technologies, navigation and communication systems, and electronic flight control systems. This concentration provides graduates with the necessary skills to work on sophisticated avionics systems, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of aircraft in the ever-evolving aerospace industry.
Over the past 20 years the need for aircraft designers and manufacturers has reduced considerably. In contrast, there has been an exponential growth in the air transport industry and the need for aircraft maintenance engineers.
Over the last 10 years there have been a several reports, including ICAO and Governmental papers highlighting the shortage of aircraft maintenance engineers. One, in January 2006 states “The recruitment of Licensed Engineers (Part 66, Category B and above) will become increasingly difficult over the next 3 years. It is clear from other studies that the situation remains the same today.
As a result, the employment opportunities for Aircraft Engineering graduates are excellent, especially those who complete the Diploma in Aircraft Engineering Technologies style course and at an EASA/GCAA 147 approved maintenance training organization.
